Meet the Crew

Hi, we're the Divest WPI crew! We're proud of our involvement in the divestment campaign on campus and we want to be totally transparent about who we are. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out and contact us.

As students, we prepare for the future. Now it's time to protect the future by ending support for organizations that seek to undermine it. I support divestment because we have an opportunity, to act here and now, as a nationally recognized institution to stand up and say enough is enough.

I support divestment because I want my younger sister and cousins to feel hopeful about the future. Although that future is threatened by climate change, divestment gives us a chance work towards a brighter and more lasting outcome on behalf of those who cannot yet act.

Change happens from the ground up, from grassroots movements like ours and many other divestment campaigns across the country. Pressuring WPI to cut its ties with the fossil fuel industry is one of the first steps, we, as students must take to combat climate change. If we divest, surrounding schools will likely follow suit. If we want to ensure we have a future, we need to work together now. Divesting from fossil fuels = investing in our future.

I support divestment because it is our responsibility to do what is right and to take action. We can't wait for others to lead the way or underestimate the impact of our individual actions as excuses for propagating the status quo.

Fossil fuel companies are among the largest polluters and contributors towards global warming. They both cause and support the destruction of natural and public land and undermine efforts towards a more sustainable future. They pose a barrier towards environmental justice around the world. We must take a stand that we don't want their influence on government policy and our daily lives.

I support divestment because climate justice is social justice- those holding the least power over climate change are affected the most by it. As human beings, it is our responsibility to each other and to future generations to disrupt the violence and destruction caused by the fossil fuel industry.

I used to think I didn’t have the power to change anything. The truth is, we have the power to change everything if we’re willing to step up and work together. Divestment is about reclaiming that power and making an impact bigger than any one person could alone. We need to fight for the future we want.

I support divestment because I believe our institutions should be responsive to us, the people, and not to a few fossil fuel executives. When the status quo encourages multinational corporations to buy politicians, poison the planet, and jeopardize our future, then it is our duty to change that status quo. The history of change is the story of broad and diverse movements coming together to utilize the ultimate power - people power! Divestment is one piece in a larger puzzle of students, workers, and activists coming together to create a better world for us all, and I am proud to have a part to play in it.

I support divestment because we, the WPI community, have an obligation to hold WPI to their own standard of bettering the world we live in. I don't want climate change to be passed off to the next generation as it was done for us.
